Domenico’s is a very special part of Utica and an anchor in the neighborhood. It’s a small, shabby chic, coffee shop with good staple coffee and nice espresso. There’s a selection of house made pastries and if you search the tops of the counters you’ll find some really nice gluten-free, organic, healthy treats to go made by someone who lives very close by. This is not a fancy joint but it’s a fabulous joint.
You’ll often find groups of regulars holding court for hours, along with those who zip in and out every morning on their way to work. Domenico’s and it’s outdoor patio make for a comfortable gathering place for lots of different people throughout different parts of the day. The corner is perfect for people watching and there’s some great art on the walls.
Attached to Domenico’s, is The Other Side, a tiny, rectangular, wood floor venue that is part art gallery, part everything else. From Jazz musicians to Argentine Tango lessons to a monthly art exhibit, this is a little gem of a performance space.
Possibly the best thing about Domenico’s, are the Domenicos themselves, a husband and wife pair that the neighborhood holds dear. They bring both a familial regularity and a touch of artistic class to everyone around them. This is indeed a very special place.
And the coffee doesn’t suck.
